“I thought: What have I got to lose,” said Timothy Haddad, executive business machines at Butler, who told a business audience how he successfully applied for a $15,000 grant under the program a few weeks ago.

“My father started this business about 40 years ago, a small business owner. We do all the copiers and printers in an office environment, so when COVID hit us, we could no longer go into an office environment to do what we do best,” Haddad said. “So this is a big help for me because, my father is still around and he can see that this business is still going on … it’s still working and going forward, and this (grant) will help us overcome it.”

The first thing we want to do is help our small businesses.” Investing in businesses,” said Morris County Commissioner Stephen Shaw.

Ed Ramirez of the Economic Development Corporation organized the event to raise awareness of grant opportunities for small businesses under a partnership between the Chamber, EDC and Morris County.

Federal guidelines governing the grant program determine exactly which expenses are eligible for coverage and which applications can be approved.

Grants are limited to $15,000 per applicant. However, business owners and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to submit an application that includes all expenses they believe may be eligible for a grant, even if the total amount for a single claim exceeds $15,000.

A final review may determine that some costs submitted for consideration are not covered under program guidelines. However, by submitting all possible eligible expenses, applicants increase their chances of receiving the maximum amount of grant money.
