Monterey County Small Business Grants – To support small businesses facing the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Monterey County Workforce Development Council, in partnership with the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA), has launched the COVID-19 Micro Business Grant Fund.
The funds will be awarded to eligible small employers who are experiencing economic hardship caused by the pandemic. A minimum of $455,000 is available for at least 180 businesses to receive $2,500 in grants.

Businesses with 1 to 5 full-time employees are eligible for a total of $2,500 in investment. A minimum of $455,000 is available for at least 180 businesses to receive $2,500 in grants.

The application period begins on March 28, 2002 and will remain open until all funds are exhausted.

For the purposes of this grant application, a maximum of 5 full-time employees (FTE) may include a mix of full-time and part-time employees. An employee who works an average of at least 30 hours per week is considered full-time. Independent contractors are not considered employees and cannot be included in the employee count.
Submit payroll records that support what you reported on the application such as the current number of part-time and full-time employees your business employs. A complete payroll record is required, which includes the employee’s name and the number of hours worked per week. All applicants require current payment records and statistics (records must be at least March 2020 or later). If it is not possible to provide payroll records, the applicant’s statement can be obtained by the applicant so that they can prove to themselves the current number of employees.
You cannot apply for this grant if you have received funding from the CA Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant in the past. However, you can apply for this grant if you have received financial assistance in the past to help with the COVID-19 crisis, either in the form of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a small business grant from Monterey County Workforce Development. Council, or other grants or loans related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility for a business depends on whether it is owned and operated by a Monterey County company, which means it is domiciled in Monterey County according to tax and other public records. If your business or the company that owns it is located in Monterey County, it will qualify. Where you live as an individual is not important unless your address outside of Monterey County is also an official business address.

The Vendor Data Register (VDR) is a form required by municipalities to provide public funding. A VDR is required regardless of the type of business or whether you have a trade license. To receive funds, the recipient must submit a complete application, 2019 Form 1040, Schedule C, current wage records, W-9 and VDR.
