This guide covers the capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and how Dynamics NAV can take your business streamlining, automation and customer engagement to a whole new level! Let’s take a look and see if it’s worth it.
The beginning of Microsoft Dynamics Navision dates back to 1984. PC&C A/S (Personal Computing and Consulting), a Danish company, has achieved huge success with its client-server accounting tool called Navision. This was because Navision was one of the first software to allow multiple users to access system information at the same time. Its success prompted the company to change its name to Navision Software A/S in 1995.
When Navision was released for Microsoft Windows 95, it was a huge hit. Unlike many of its contemporaries, Navision has gained popularity among small and medium-sized manufacturers/distributors as a highly configurable and reliable product.
With Navision’s growing success and potential future, Microsoft saw a lucrative opportunity to integrate it into its existing products. Microsoft acquired Navision Software A/S in July 2002, and Navision formed a new Microsoft company called Microsoft Business Solutions, which also handled Microsoft’s CRM.
Streamline And Grow Your Business With Dynamics 365 Business Central
Shortly after being acquired by Microsoft, Navision was renamed Microsoft Dynamics NAV. It was one of four major ERP systems that Microsoft purchased and renamed, including Dynamics AX (Axapta), Dynamics GP (Great Plains), and Dynamics SL (Solomon). Many of Navision’s existing partners, including Innovia, have become Microsoft partners.
After that, later versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV received new names that included more functions and technologies, such as finance, supply chain management, and business intelligence. In 2018, Microsoft Dynamics NAV released its latest version.
After that, Microsoft decided to abandon Microsoft Navision as a stand-alone solution and integrate Microsoft Dynamics NAV as one of its products in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 ecosystem. Microsoft Dynamics NAV was renamed Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and is now called Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Microsoft will continue to provide updates to existing users who are still limited to Microsoft Dynamics NAV and earlier versions. However, it is best to upgrade to the latest Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform with easy and seamless integration with other Microsoft cloud services (including Office 365) and customization with Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI.

Microsoft Dynamics Navision can be used to manage multiple companies from a single interface. Dynamics NAV enables organizations to gain internal insight and a complete overview of their operations, enabling them to understand exactly what they can improve.
Microsoft Navision Business Central software, like data warehouses, can store data about customers and business activities. It also serves as a unified operational data repository. This gives different teams and senior management a clear picture of things like production costs and expenses, allowing budgets to be regularly analyzed and re-estimated to keep costs as low as possible.
Dynamics 365’s powerful user interface empowers your employees to deliver excellence and create more engaging customer experiences.
One of the differentiating factors of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is the use of Sum Index Flow Technology, or SIFT for short. SumIndexField (SIFT) technology allows you to quickly calculate the sum of table columns of numeric data types (decimal, integer, large integer, and duration), even in tables with thousands of records. This allows the solution to eliminate the programming required to update buckets through posting operations, while ensuring that aggregated figures on screens and reports are fully linked to the underlying information.
Modern Data Warehouse For Small And Medium Business
For example, if you use the customer card and view the current account balance on an open invoice, this figure is obtained in real time by adding up all the invoices in the register that have not yet been paid. SIFT technology does this without affecting application performance.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central can handle your routine tasks and automate them to save you time. This allows teams to be informed in advance of project priorities, pending tasks, and upcoming deadlines.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 subscription allows users to take advantage of its AI insights using rich data visualizations and dashboards. This feature comes through the use of Power BI, a business intelligence tool owned by Microsoft.
