Atlanta, Ga. – On 12/12/22, the Urban League of Greater Atlanta announced a plan to help small businesses in the Atlanta market introduce a new online learning program: Verizon Small Business Digital Ready. In partnership with Next Street and LISC, the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready online curriculum is designed to give small businesses the tools they need to succeed in today’s digital economy, including access to personalized curricula, training from professionals and networking opportunities with diverse businesses. – some business.

More than 100,000 small businesses have closed due to the pandemic, disproportionately affecting Black-owned and operated small businesses. Verizon Small Business Digital Ready offers business support focused on digital readiness and digital transformation through a personalized curriculum that takes into account business, size and interests. The Urban League of Greater Atlanta is proud to partner with Verizon to reach businesses in the Atlanta markets that need support the most.
Designed with small businesses in mind, Verizon Small Business Digital Ready offers a personalized experience—providing tools, networking and training tailored to the specific needs of small businesses. This program helps small businesses succeed in four ways:
A marketplace for tools, solutions, products and services to help small businesses. Participants will be eligible to apply for grant funding specifically for Verizon Small Business Digital Ready users.
This initiative is part of Verizon’s commitment to equip one million small businesses with tools and digital tools by 2030 and is central to Verizon’s responsible business strategy for economic, environmental and social development, Citizen Verizon. Four entrepreneurs share how they used a $10,000 grant and free courses to grow their businesses in amazing ways with Small Business Digital.
Small Business Digital Ready is dedicated to helping small businesses thrive in the digital economy. As part of this initiative and partnership with LISC community development nonprofit, small business owners are given the opportunity to apply for $10,000 in small business grants. By 2022, Small Business has committed to funding more than $1 million in grants for Digital Ready users alone. Here, four of them share how they’re using their tools and the new knowledge they’ve gained from their Digital Ready courses to grow their businesses in amazing ways.

After immigrating to the United States from Iran, Ahmad and Ansi Moghddam founded ASM Education Center (ASM) in 1992 with their grown son and daughter in Rockville, MD. Since then, the family business has trained more than just IT professionals and other technical skills. “We are proud of our heritage and our ability to help so many people,” said Ency. Due to the pandemic, the clients of this center have contracted and transferred their private lessons to virtual training. Azita Moghaddam, Chief Customer Officer and daughter of Ansi and Ahmad, sincerely helped transform the business when she applied for and received the Digital Ready grant. Q. How has the grant helped support ASM? A. To be honest, this win felt good for us and confirmed that we are still on track. With the help of the grant, we put a little more money into our general work to maintain the client’s office and supplement the teachers’ salaries. ASM is now marking new initiatives and expanding important programs, including job skills training for Afghan refugees. Q. Have other Digital Ready tools helped ASM? A. I have taken many courses including income generating activities, MWBE buying options and business planning. Unexpected Planning: After completing the Structural Assurance in your Business course, I felt a change of heart. Now I am more than happy to embrace the future and accelerate the family business continuity plan. Q. What would you say is the key to running a family business? A. Knowing that we are living our true motto of unconditional love and support, changing lives through education. This is why we work hard every day and my 89-year-old father still comes to work to inspire all our students, especially the youth.
Verizon Is Committed To Uplifting Small Businesses
Jaja Chen and Devin Lee launched Cha Community, a premium dumpling and boba tea company, in 2018. The business is based in Waco, Texas and focuses on building community while creating great products. Chen and Lee were in the middle of opening their second cafe when the pandemic hit, causing Chen to go after the grant. Q. How has the pandemic affected the opening of your new location? At first, the work went according to plan. But as construction costs increased, we realized we needed more money to complete the project. Q. How did the grant help the Cha Community in that difficult time? A. This grant has changed our small business. We have had difficulty managing our COVID-19 relief dollars, resulting in limited cash flow as the pandemic has put pressure on our business. With the help of the grant, we were able to complete our boba tea cafe in Temple, Texas. It’s just the help needed to cover construction costs and keep the project running smoothly. We successfully opened in March 2022. Q. How is business going? A. The Downtown Temple has been very welcoming and a great support to us. Our focus now is to expand the food and truck events that pop up in our communities. We are also strengthening leadership development within the company and plan to grow the Cha Community in Central Texas.

Joe Alvarez and Eric Casillas started CareClean in 2016 in Los Angeles, California. In six years they have grown their office cleaning business from one client to over 100 to include event cleaning services. The pandemic has hit businesses hard as customer offices are closed and demand for cleaning has dropped. Fortunately, Alvarez and Casillas worked with LISC, where they both gained new business skills and learned about Digital Ready Small Business. Alvarez applied for and received a $10,000 grant. Q. How has the grant helped your company during the pandemic? A. After the epidemic, we had to change our way of thinking. After taking lessons and receiving grants, we invested in our digital marketing plan. Our approach has translated into many Google ads in internet search results and social media. Q. What has been the impact of your digital marketing investment? A. One search engine campaign allowed our business to be ranked in the neighborhood related searches. As a result, 20 additional customers appeared. The company aims to reach $3 million in revenue this year. Q. What does success mean to you and your family? A. Owning a business and being able to take care of my two sons and encourage their growth and development explained everything.
