Famous Chefs In Los Angeles – Chef Ludo Lefebvre is a world-renowned chef and currently one of the most influential members of the Los Angeles food scene. He trained in France for 12 years under French gastronomy masters such as Alain Passard, Pierre Gagner, Marc Menu and Guy Martin. Ludovic – or Ludo Lefebvre – moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1990s and successfully took charge of fine dining restaurant LOrangerie and eventually Bastide. Dishes he makes there include pollard marinated in Pepsi, popcorn and cream pudding topped with caviar in a salted butter caramel sauce.
After Bastide closed for renovations, he decided not to go back and asked his friend who owned the bakery if he could take over for three months at night or he would close. Within that space, he created a special event dining experience that eventually became known as Ludobites and was hailed by LA Weekly Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Jonathan Gold as a “transformative moment” for the Los Angeles restaurant scene.

He pioneered the idea of a pop-up restaurant with his Ludobites concept, embarking on a multi-city restaurant tour to share the idea and challenge what a dining experience should be. In September 2010, Ludo opened his food truck, known on the streets as Ludotruck, bringing fried chicken to the streets of Los Angeles. In October 2013, Ludo took his fried chicken concept to the next level and opened his first brick-and-mortar store, Ludobird, inside the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Next, Ludo Lefebvre opened the casual fine-dining restaurant Trois Mac to immediate acclaim and in 2014 launched the James-Beard nominated Petit Trois. Most recently in October 2015, Ludo opened his first brunch concept, the Trois Familia, in Silver Lake, California.
Ludo is also the author of two cookbooks, Ludobites: The Cookbooks and Stories of Ludo Lefebvre and Crave: A Feast for the Five Senses Pop-Up Restaurant. Lefebvre has made numerous television appearances, including Iron Chef America, Top Chef Masters, Hell’s Kitchen, Ludo Bites America on the Sundance Channel, and The Taste with Anthony Bourdain. He was named a Breakthrough Star for The Taste by The New York Times. What could be better than a delicious marriage between two people in a town known for its celebrities and food? From food competitions to reality shows, these chefs have become household names and their restaurants have become some of Los Angeles’ favorites. Below is a list of some of the top restaurants created by celebrity chefs whose culinary skills live up to their fame.
Named for the grandmother who helped him realize his culinary dreams, Curtis Stone’s Maude offers seasonal menus in an intimate setting. Every month, celebrity chefs in Australia choose an ingredient to inform and inspire the entire nine-course menu. While corkage fees are allowed in restaurants, thoughtful wine pairings are encouraged to accompany the prix-fixe menu. The 25-seat restaurant creates a comfortable chef’s table experience; however, that also means they don’t accept walk-ins. Reservations can be hard to come by, so plan ahead.
As the name suggests, Trois Mac is the brainchild of “three guys”: Jon Shook and Animal’s Vinny Dotolo, and the always fun Ludo Lefebvre. While the restaurant is located in an understated mall on Highland Avenue (look for the bright Raffallo’s Pizza sign), the food here is anything but. Everything from buckwheat popcorn to potato puree is well thought out, unique and impressive. A five-course menu was offered that night to patrons lucky enough to grab a table through the online ticketing system. Tickets can be purchased two weeks in advance and are issued every other Friday at 8:00am. Since the restaurant is small and not walkable, if you want to try this French phenomenon, set your alarm and be ready to use the refresh button.

Viewers remember her winning the challenge for making an impressive scallion ring and microgreen salad using ingredients from the vending machine. Away from the vending machines, Jar is a contemporary restaurant in downtown Los Angeles that serves familiar American favorites like stew, pork chops, and steaks—all with a modern twist. Both the food and decor are built on a reputation for being elegant and inviting. With a consistent track record of excellence, Trach & Jarr has not only won multiple awards, but the hearts of Los Angeles. No wonder Jar is so well received and still going strong after 14 years.

Long Beach has proposed a large new outdoor amphitheater in a new waterfront development in San Pedro, which will be the main attraction for the South Bay urban show. Many restaurants are developing along the waterfront, such as Yamashiro, Mike Hess Brewing, Poppy + Rose, Jay Bird’s Hot Chicken and Sugar Factory.
